Ninth Company received awards from the most important Russian film festivals, was a selection in the 2005 U.S. Academy Awards for best foreign film, and was the highest grossing film in Russia in 2005. The film is based on real events that occurred in 1988 during the end of the war and the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan, when marines of the ninth company, forgotten by their homeland, but still loyal, heroically, but futilely, defended a strategic hill.

Ninth Company will be shown in Russian with English subtitles. Introductory remarks are by Snezhana Zheltoukhova. For more information please contact info@russianflagship.wisc.edu
